Views From The Booth
The Robinson High School gym has the setup I wished for at my old job; a large office overlooking the court from the top of the visitor stands with plenty of room for cameras, laptops, and commentators. We had one camera operator and one fixed camera on the scoreboard and space inside for myself on a laptop running Production Truck (I miss my tricaster) and the talent.
We broadcast 12 games over two days. I brought my cameras with me because of course I did.
Being a producer gives you zero time to do anything else. Everything I have below was shot either during the one game I wasn’t in the chair for or the time right after gameplay ended but before the awards ceremony. (I had the 400 ready to next to the door. )

6A Boys Semifinal game between John Paul II High School (Plano, TX) and Prestonwood Christian Academy (Plano, TX). PCA advanced to the state final game after defeating JPII 67-54.
4A Lutheran North High School advances to the state final game after a 55-22 victory over the Texas School for the Deaf. This was the first loss of the season for the Rangers, who had a record of 33/0 up to this point. It was certainly the most intense basketball game I had seen so far in the tournament.
The intensity of the game is visible on the faces of both teams in the moments after Bishop Lynch High School’s 70-67 victory over Prestonwood Christian Academy in the TAPPS 6A State Semifinals.
This game was nuts. I don’t know what else to say about it. Everybody was on their feet by the end of it, including everyone in the booth.
I think you just had to be there.
