Pan-ish

Panning is one of those things I always think is cool to try but I never set out with the intention of doing it. I always think about it when I’m not really prepared or equipped for it. Take these shots for instance.

Basketball is probably the most chaotic five days of the year for us. I’m not getting into it here but one of my jobs is to get the group shots after each game. Those must be made into graphics and those graphics must be posted as soon as possible after each game. They are the kinds of things that people and teams re-tweet, and that the press will embed in their web stories about our games. My job is not to shoot the entire game, as much as I want it to be, I just have other things to do.

So here I am during the last 3-5 minutes of a given basketball game with a wider lens and a flash. (And no, I don’t just carry everything with me at all times during this event. For one thing, there are 36 games and I am responsible for media at all of them, even the ones at sites other than the one I am standing in.)

This time it’s a 24-105 f/4. It’s chaotic and cramped. Still fun.
