Central Park, 2018

I’ve been to New York City once, and only for a few hours.

We were in New Jersey for a wedding. I could see it as we came in for a landing. Turns out we would have one afternoon free, so we took the rental car to Central Park. We had time for one thing, and it had to be something my daughter would be able to enjoy. (As it is now, the show Central Park is still one of her favorites.) My wife’s parents grew up here, so she’d been here a few times. We had time to walk around a bit, have some lunch, then be back in time for the rehearsal dinner.

I’d never been in a city this big. One of the things I kept getting reminded of was the work of Joel Meyerowitz and Bill Cunningham. Meyerowitz of course because of being outside in NYC but Cunningham because of the people you see there. (I used both of these guys when I was teaching.)

I had 35mm equivalent on a fuji and a 14mm and a 24-105mm on a cannon in my bag. I mostly use the fuji when I’m traveling, but I wanted the wider angle.

I hadn’t really looked at these since I got back from that trip. They aren’t good. But they are what I saw. And just like most everybody else I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately.
